5 Green alternatives to a Christmas tree

by admin Leave a reply »

We have already bought our Christmas tree for the season, but I have been thinking quite a bit lately about alternatives to either fake or real Christmas trees.  If you are adventurous enough to greenisize your holiday in this way, here are five great alternatives to a traditional Christmas tree:

  1. Adopt-A-Tree This San Diego program allows its participants to rent a potted Christmas tree.  These come from 3-6 feet and once the season is done, it is planted in a fire ravaged California forest.
  2. Go without – Why not have a Christmas where presents are put in a specially decorated area to give it a holiday feel?
  3. Enter to win this unique cardboard Christmas tree
  4. Decorate a potted plant!  There are some really nice plants that you can keep year round and may serve as a great substitute for a Christmas tree.
  5. Build a Christmas village, but I would be a little careful on what set you get and I wonder even if there are any good ‘green’ Christmas villages.  Even better, make it a family event and build your own Christmas villages out of wood or ceramic!

Please let me know if you have any other ideas or know of other great programs in the comment area below.
