Green Coffee Cups

February 5th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »

I went out for a coffee today with a friend; something I don’t get to do often. I decided to take off the cardboard sleeve and brought it home to recycle so there would be less waste from my trip. I realize how many coffee cups end up in the garbage every day. Ben had already went through the statistics of styrofoam coffee cup waste. Maybe we can get more specific on what popular coffee chains are doing to reduce their carbon footprint.

Starbucks:  Starbucks have several goals in improving their inventory options. They have set the goal to produce a recyclable cup by 2012. They want to make 25% of cups used reusable. They also want to have in house recycling an option.

Caribou Coffee:  This franchise sells felt reusable coffee sleeves.   I think this idea is great!  They also have a great selection of reusable coffee mugs for sale on their website.

I am having a lot of difficulty finding anything under Dunn’s Brother’s Coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts or Seattle’s Best websites.  So instead of stopping the blog now I wanted to bring up a really cool green coffee invention.  It is a reusable coffee mug, but a different sort.  It actually looks like a coffee cup that you would get in the cafe.  This is a good invention probably for the person who likes the feel of a traditional coffee cup.

So I thought I would be able to get a little more information on this topic but there isn’t much that Ben hasn’t already covered already.  If you know any cool eco-friendly coffee creations that we should know about, please leave it in the comment section below.
