I threw away an orange peel and failed today

Here I am on the first day of my new task and I threw away some food.  For those of you just joining us, I am given a green challenge every week and this week’s challenge is to keep track of the food waste I am producing.  Also, this week I am supposed to try and eat some organic meals.  I threw some food away today… bummer.

I did not eat anything that was organic or from the garden today.  I did, however, continue to make chicken stock from an Amish chicken I bought a few weeks ago.  I started it yesterday, using an Alton Brown recipe, and it was not quite where I wanted it to be after cooling.  So, as instructed by my reliable TV friend, I am boiling the liquid down further and hoping it will be ready for the freezer tomorrow.

I threw away one big fat orange peel today and that is all.  I know I could keep these and use them for something, but it slipped my mind.  For now on, I will keep my orange peels!  I can make potpourri from it.

I did put some food into my NatureMill composter today and boy it is handy.  BTW, if you have not done so yet…. Sign up to win a Nature Mill composter at the link to the right.

I just found your blog and since I am trying the “more green” route, I have enjoyed reading your posts. Keep up the good work!

By the way, you are forgiven for throwing away that orange peel:)

lol… thanks! It is funny though, because it really is the small decisions though that can make the biggest impact.

  3. Despite the tossing of the orange peel (TONS of orange peels in my compost) I have to say I’m proud of you. As is FAR too often quoted “It’s not easy being green” if you try to do too much all at once. But you’re doing great… and showing a LOT of people that taking small steps can lead to big impact. So YAY for you! :D

The small every day choices make the biggest impact, right?
