Just a few days left to enter the Guy Goes Green NatureMill Giveaway

February 20th, 2010

There are just a few short days to enter the Guy Goes Green NatureMill Giveaway and I suggest you enter today (link to the right).  We own two of these and they have really been great to have around.  Since we have had our NatureMill composters, our garbage output has gone down dramatically.  We are saving the compost for our garden this spring and really looking for it.

This is a great prize and you should visit www.naturemill.com to learn more for yourself.  I might sound a bit like a commercial, but I am always happy to stand behind a product that I believe in.  Not only is the NatureMill a green product in itself (made with recycled material I believe), but it helps us be green.

No food waste and great walleye meal

February 18th, 2010

I did a good job today in sticking with this week’s green challenge.  Not only did I not throw away any food waste, but I also ate a meal that was mostly organic.  This week’s green task is to eat organically and also to keep track of any food that I throw away.  I did pretty darn well on both counts today.

First, let me tell you about my awesome meal today.  I cooked us up some fresh walleye caught straight from Minnesota lakes.  I cooked it in some Smart Balance Omega (good for the ticker and cholesterol) buttery spread along with some organic garlic and a bit of cayenne for some POW.  We also had some green beans from the can and these were NOT organic.   Hopefully, we will have some garden canned green beans next year, but it was not in the cards for tonight.  Overall, tonight, we ate a fairly organic meal.  I was going to take a picture, but we ate it too quick.  J

As far as throwing food or any food waste away today?  Nope… did not do it.  Yay!

Let me know some of the organic food you eat in the comment areas below.  Also, don’t forget to sign up to win a NatureMill composter at the link shown to the right.

Week 17 – Keeping an eye on our food

February 15th, 2010

It is a new week and Ashley has assigned me a new green challenge.  Since we are having a giveaway this week where the winner gets a NatureMill composter, it is fitting that we have a challenge this week that involves food.  Our green task for the week is to try and eat organically this week and keep track of all food items we throw in the garbage.

Eating organically can help remind us how good natural food is.  In my opinion, the best kind of “organic” food is the kind that comes from our own gardens and caught outside of corporate farms.   It is gratifying to be able to eat our own food and even though we are toward the end of winter, we still have some home grown food as well as some meat that we have caught ourselves.

Keeping track of our food waste for the week will help us determine what we can change about our habits and make sure we are staying honest with what we are throwing away.  We will certainly be bringing up our NatureMill composter this week to promote the giveaway, but only because it has been a really good tool for us to use in our going green adventure.  Stay tuned… it should be a fun week!
