As I near the end of my first weekly task, I am beginning to wonder if the internet ever runs out of information. This week my task is to start following specific sites and also to find new blogs or sites to share with my wife. I am beginning to experience information overload and need your help. Can you help me find 3-5 green blogs or sites that I should pass along to my wife?
Beyond the sites she wants me to find, she also asked me to follow The Daily Green, Tree Hugger, and worldwatch.org. She will be proud, as I have been keeping up with these sites every day. These environmentally friendly sites have certainly been giving me plenty of information and I am learning all sorts of interesting green information. Everything from news about green legislation to how to make paper from garbage… I am being learned in the ways of hippiedom.
After I complete all of the “required” reading, I have been looking around the internet for other interesting and unique green sites. Among the plethora of green information I have waded through, there have been a few sites that have seemed to stand out for me. These are not necessarily the sites I will pass along to meet my requirements, but have certainly been interesting. First, I found Franke James and found it to be a very fun green and eco-friendly site. Franke James is an author/artist/photographer who won me over with her visual essays that I would label as children’s book for grownups. Pictures are always a bonus! Check out Paradise Unpaved for a good example of her work.
I also found Go Green Street. This site provides a variety of useful information that is organized in a manner that is very easy to navigate. The easy navigation and great content make this site one that I will continue to visit. Lastly, I found EnviroGadget. I love toys and this will be a site I will continue to watch. I noticed on the front page, they listed a solar/crank powered radio flashlight that I already own and bring ice fishing with me. Very handy little item.
I have found a few interesting sites that give me a variety of information, but I want to make sure I am getting the best bang for my buck. Check out the sites that I have mentioned and let me know in the comments section below if you have a great green or eco-friendly site/blog that you would recommend. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Ok, well I have to plug for myself don’t I?! We run a green blog and we only update 3 or so times a week. What I find with all the blogs I follow is I sometimes get totally overwhelmed with the number of posts.
Right now you’ll be lapping everything up because it’s new and exciting. But a month or so down the line and you might realise you’re burning up a whole load of CO2 sitting at the computer all day!
I also run a site which focuses specifically on reducing household waste. it’s http://myzerowaste.com That one is updated daily, but we try to keep it chatty and fun. The last time we had our bin emptied was January!
So while I agree treehugger and the daily green are fab, there is a LOT of information on them which can lead to paralysis iykwim.
The frankejames one looks great – I never knew about it, so thank you for that! Some of the frugal sites are worth following too because green and frugal often go hand in hand.
Best of luck with your searches!
I am giving you an A+ for this week. I signed up for Go Green Street, EnviroGadget, and myzerowaste.com RSS feeds. I checked out the Franke James website and was quite impressed. If there is anything else you come across (ie interesting articles, websites, etc) you can certainly pass them on to me throughout the year. This will be an ongoing assignment because I think it’s important to keep up with news, and new information.
Mrs. Green, DOH! I did not try and miss you and I really appreciate your comments here! Little Green Blog is in my RSS feed and will be sure to check out http://myzerowaste.com. Being frugal has always interested me. Once again, thank you for your self-plug…. I will make sure to get a plug on a future post too.
Ashley, thanks for the report card. What happens if I get an F?
Good luck on week two
Check out my green “ethical luxury” blog:

Thanks for the blog link Elena Lipson. I added it to my RSS feed reader!
Elena,
Thanks for stopping by and your link (http://theecodiva.blogspot.com/). I dont think that you will catch me wearing vanilla orange certified organic hand and body shea cream, but Ashley will love stuff like that. I am very interested in the cooking stuff though. One thing I do love is food!
Thanks for sharing my blog — and our green driveway adventure, Paradise Unpaved — with your readers. We are having fun going green and realizing lots of benefits (fitness, pocketbook, and environmental).
I’ve tweeted about “Guy Goes Green” so hopefully you’ll attract a few more eyes to your worthwhile adventure of going green.
Cheers,
Franke James
Thank you Franke! You really put an interesting and fun to read perspective on things.
